Good Choice
The staff on reception are a credit to the hotel. I was so happy to be given a map, details of public transport and restaurant info all on paper. During my trip I was tired of being directed to an app or to scan a QR code. The receptionists took time to ask about my day and enjoyment.
The hotel is about 10 minutes steady walk from Kings Cross train station and there is a bus stop literally at the front door. It's a pleasant walk down to the Botanic Gardens which leads onto the Opera House and Circular Quay,
I was lucky enough to be allocated a Harbour Bridge view room which was amazing.
The apartment had ample crockery and cutlery. I only really used it for breakfast so the kettle, toaster and hotplate were all I needed.
There is a laundry on every floor for use of the guests.
The decor is probably becoming a bit dated, but the service. cleanliness location and views more than make up for this

Unfavorable experience
Stayed at the Macleay Hotel for a week during Vivid. Decided to stay here since the rating was pretty good according to hotels.com site - 8.6
The was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and these are my reasons why:
1. The room smelled like mildew. We ended up buying Air freshener to make the smell better.
2. After getting the room cleaned, no extra toilet paper was given. When calling to ask if someone could bring up a roll, front desk told me I had to come down and get it myself.
3. Construction was being done on the floor below us around 7:15 am. When talking to the front desk about it, the manager was not apologetic (the first day). Later that evening, I asked the front desk to check if any construction would be going on and the person said no. We were woken up the next morning to a hammer pounding. We recorded it and went down to the front desk to let them hear what we were experiencing. It was then that the manager apologized and comp’d us for the 2 days.
My family and I felt like we were catfished in thinking this was a great hotel to stay. I hope others that stay here will have a much better experience than we did.

Lovely staff. Easy and reasonably priced parking - small carpark though, so not suitable for a larger vehicle. Decent sized room and kitchenette. Great location with plenty of dining options nearby. Comfortable bed porticot provided for our toddler.

Beautiful accomodating hotel in a beautiful area that is located within walking distance of train & bus service as well as tourist attractions. The staff were lovely and helpful, the rooftop view incredible and nothing we asked too much trouble. Would def stay with my family again if ever we came back to Sydney.
