This is an older building that has been renovated. Some of the interiors feel their age, and there is a single elevator which may lead to a wait to get to a high floor.
What makes the Tilden Hotel feel special is exactly the fact that it is comfortable in the Hygge sense with exceptionally good service. The lobby has ample space for relaxing, working, and playing board games. The morning coffee shop is excellent, serving great complementary coffee and tea, as well as fruit and pastires, including Kouign Aman, a delightful baked good that is often hard to find! The attached restaurant, the Douglas Room, is both hip and delicious, and is also a good place to get plated breakfast items like avocado or salmon toast and vegetable hash with eggs.
The rooms have comfortable beds and Malin Goetz amenities. There are also in room K-cups (the compostable kind) and a Keurig, but the guys at the lobby desk were always nice enough to give us cups of hot water from the coffee shop to take up to our room when we wanted to make tea. We stopped by the Hilton lobby bar and rooftop bar next door, but always preferred hanging out in the Tilden hotel because we felt much more at home!
