I recently stayed at Balmer Lawn Hotel, expecting a relaxing and family-friendly experience, but unfortunately, it fell short.
The bedroom and bathroom felt quite tired and in need of an update—not what I’d expect from a four-star hotel. Despite being advertised as a family-friendly hotel, the pool was closed to children for most of the day. It seems they are trying to cater to both families and adults seeking a spa retreat, but in reality, they can’t have it both ways without disappointing one group.
Another frustrating aspect was the extra charge for coffee at breakfast—£4 per cup! I’ve never encountered that at any other hotel, and for the price of the stay, it felt excessive.
The hotel keeps mentioning plans to upgrade the spa and pool, but I paid for the experience as it is now, not for what it might be in the future. Given the cost of our stay, I expected much better.
Having said that, the location was perfect and staff were friendly.
Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. It’s overpriced, poorly balanced between being a family hotel and a spa retreat, and simply not worth the money.
