We booked this hotel last minute, as most options were expensive. Although not inexpensive, we decided to try it despite mixed reviews.
This is one of the older resorts in the hotel zone, and it shows. Our room in the main building offered nice views but hadn't been updated. The beds were uncomfortable, and wear and tear were evident. The room attendant didn't meet our expectations, possibly due to a heavy workload.
The food was hit or miss. The buffet was mediocre, and the Mexican restaurant was disappointing. However, we enjoyed the KOI (Asian) and Italian restaurants, with KOI being the best. The hibachi experience lacked energy and variety. Breakfast was good but repetitive. The café, with fresh ice cream and cappuccinos, was a highlight.
The beach setup was limited, with few lounges and cabanas. Early risers claimed them, leaving others to use towels on the sand. Our butler service allowed us to reserve cabanas, which typically cost $200 daily.
A downside was the constant sales pitches, trying to sell memberships or excursions. The concierge spent 30 minutes trying to get us to attend a presentation, which we declined. This left a sour taste.
Nighttime activities were minimal, with only a few shows and no lively music. However, our butler, Jessica, was excellent, managing our reservations and cabana bookings.
