I was overall satisfied with my stay at the HoJo, but there were a number of negatives that began to add up after a week long stay. While I was satisfied, I will not be staying again at the HoJo as there are similarly priced options that are better in Dalian.
The rooms were very spacious on the executive level, and included a small kitchen. The room was comfortable, and the bed not too hard (by China standards). The cleaning staff were also very friendly.
As the week went on, however, I noticed some small bug bites on my body. Considering I had just arrived in China and spent the majority of my first few days at the hotel, I'm fairly confident there were some sort of bugs in the room. In addition to this, on my last few nights my entire room quickly filled up with a very strong smell as if I were in the kitchen of a restaurant. Emphasis on "very strong". Considering my room was far from the restaurant in the hotel, I imagine some guests were cooking in their room and the smells came through the ventilation. With that said however, it is hard to imagine what they could have been cooking that would have made such a strong smell. I had no windows or doors open when this happened.
I don't want to say the HoJo is a bad hotel, as I was comfortable there for most of my stay... but I would feel bad if I recommended it and people encountered the same issues I had. Give this one a pass, unless it is a good deal cheaper than the alternatives.
