This charming almost-hidden charmer was our favorite of 5 hotels in our recent trip to Italy. We had taken a bus from Florence and disembarked at Bar Lizza. We used the free WiFi there to find a hotel that would be close to our location so we could settle down quickly. This wonderful haven was about a 5-minute walk, granted over uneven centuries-old pavers, but what a find! It is a 13th century building full of history and charm. You walk through doors and over pavers that have been there forever. The room was large and so comfortable, and the bath small but perfectly adequate, with a wonderful shower! The very substantial breakfast is served in a room that takes you up and down corridors and stairs that have been around for quite a while! Every person at the front desk was over-the-top friendly, welcoming and full of information and assistance. We opened our shutters to look out over a side street and, in the distance, the hills of Tuscany. Magical! The main reason for our visit to Siena was to visit the Sanctuary of St. Catherine and Basilica San Domenico, and without our even knowing it, we had booked a hotel that was 200 yards and 300 yards, respectively, from these two holy sites. We were also an easy (relatively speaking, given the VERY streets of Siena!) walk from Piazza del Campo and Il Duomo. There was noise in the main street on which the hotel entrance is located, and even on the side street, but don't let this turn you off.
