A Taste of "Real" Roma
This quaint hotel is located on the second floor of a brownstone right off of a little square. The building's old-fashion elevator was a highlight for my 8-year-old son. Luca, at the front desk, highlighted the local favourites. Porta Pia is a quintessential neighbourhood with lots of local trattorias, restaurants and homemade gelato. The #62 bus can be picked up 2 blocks away and takes you to all of the essential areas of the city while the nearest metro stop is a mere 7-minute walk. Hotel Porta Pia is a great way to experience "real" Roma.

Good location for Metro
Took some finding - only a small plaque on the wall outside but once inside the staff were great . Room we had was small and glad we were only in it for 3 nights . Quiet , good aircon , no tea or coffee in room but reception staff could always make one for you . good selection of restaurants and bars nearby .

Ehh...
It took us 2 hours to find the hotel and parking. The hotel is not well labeled. In our room the wallpaper was peeling off. It was also a non smoking room but smelled like someone had just smoked in it. There was no parking and the parking we found was only good until 9pm. We ended up leaving and not staying the night.

Best hotel in Rome
We had a five night stay booked at an expensive Via Veneto hotel but arrived a day earily. We booked this hotel and loved it. We wish we had stayed at Porta Pia instead. It is very clean, comfortable and in a perfect location. THe staff is friendly and helpful and the free breakfast sure beats the E15 breakfast each on via Veneto. From now on, this will be our hotel in Rome.

Nice find in Rome.
Upon my arrival, I thought uh oh! The hotel is on the 3rd floor of a "non hotel" building in the middle of a block with 3 steps to an old fashioned cage elevator. Don't let that fool you. Upon arrival on the hotel floor, the reception area was pleasant and inviting...the breakfast area neat and functional and the room VERY spacious and well appointed. The bath was a decent size and the room was more than acceptable with a separate sitting area facing the triple windows. The staff was extremely nice. On each trip to Rome I try to find a new hotel to share. This one was within walking distance from the train station and even better, a 3 stop bus ride on 2 lines to Piazza Barberini (at Via Veneto). Overall a clean nice little hotel with lovely staff. A definite recommend!

Too Far From City Center!!
We booked Porta Pia to spend time in the Villa Borghese, but ended up really wanting to be back closer to all the sites of Rome. This hotel was terribly inconvenient for that! We ended up spending more money on cab rides! Rooms were basic, yet clean! Hotel is situated in a weird neighborhood with nothing nearby. Staff was friendly, but overall I wouldn't recommend this unless you are for sure not planning on going to the city! 10 euro cab ride to termini. 50 euros to and from airport!

good located and clean
It was clean which is the most important thing. There are many buses to go the center of the city, you just need to ask to the people of the desk.
