2/10 Poor

This place was terrible, like something out of a nightmare. Bathroom dirty and stunk like vomit. The entire space was filthy. The bed had been slept in with black specs all over the sheets and some sort of black skid marks on them. Curtains wadded up and covered in mold. Gross, greasy carpet. I could go on with more but what’s the point. We could not get out of there fast enough. I’m very, very perplexed as to why Expedia would have any association to this awful place.

2/10 Poor

I booked this place specifically because of its connection to The Blair Witch Project. If you're an obsessed fan like me, let me tell you: it wasn't worth it. The problems started the moment I got the key. "Electric cards aren't working," I was told, as the manager handed me a standard house key, which itself was faulty: "When you put it in the lock, you have to pull it back out a little bit." An unreliable, slow means of entering the "safety" of my room? Great! It took no less than two minutes to break into the room I paid for. Closing the door behind myself, I noticed the interior door frame had been shattered, with only a few screw holes left to hint at what might have happened. Presumably some sort of lock/deadbolt had been ripped out of the door and frame. Did someone kick this door in, at some point in the past? That wasn't the only sign of damage. Someone or something had shattered part of the bathroom door, which had likely also featured a coat hook at some point in the past, going by the four empty holes at about eye level. In the corner, a disgustingly dirty chair showed obvious fraying, and the desk beside it was barely standing. I have no plausible explanation for why someone had ripped the front of a drawer off the pathetic frame. Maybe a literal bear had torn the room apart. Maybe the creature from the end of Blair Witch 3 had stormed through the place while researching for the role. I'm out of characters. Don't stay here...

4/10 Fair

I've stayed here a few times over the past 4 years when visiting Harper's Ferry but things have definitely gone downhill. The room smelled and the "lobby" check in area looked deserted and filthy. They used to have a simple continental breakfast for you before you checked out and that is gone. I slept on-top of the bed with my own comforter and pillow(which stunk after one night). I used my own towel because the ones they had were tattered and needed thrown out. I will never return and I honestly think it's time to just tear this dump down unfortunately.

2/10 Poor

So the first time I stayed there, I wasn't pleased with the space but I wasn't too upset. I had already booked my return trip so I overlooked the fact that it wasn't really a hotel and that it was not comfortable and that it seemed like nothing had been washed. I came back for my second stay and there was no one to be found. No one to give me a key or let me in. Just some shady people who didn't work from the hotel out in front of their doors. Someone nearby told me about a drug bust that recently happened there and after waiting for nearly an hour, (3 to 4pm) no one arrived to let me in the hotel, so I left and booked a different hotel. I cancelled my stay but never received a refund after expedia fought with the owners about it. DO NOT BOOK at this hotel. It is a complete scam.

Older property w/ rustic character, well maintained. Highway access. Easy to come and go. Owner was very helpful and takes pride in his motel. Comfortable room. Note: internet may not be secure.

If you're looking for a place to relax after a day in the river, here it is. Sure it's not the Ritz but it's 5 minutes to the river and across the street from a fabulous restaurant, a gas station and a liquor store. The owner is friendly and helpful. It was clean and safe enough (especially for the price) 10/10 would stay again.

This place is absolutely disgusting. Don’t waste your time or your money. I left instantly once I got to my room. The only positive thing I have to say was Expedia’s customer service was outstanding on getting me a refund from this property.

The property is nothing like the pictures. It is extremely run down and dirty. Cigarette burns in the sheets and comforters, a hole in our bathroom door with duct tape on it, smoke detector broken from the wall. The room reeked of smoke. I felt unsafe with the clientele that was currently hanging out at the hotel. Thankfully I was refunded my money as I could not stay in this hotel.

Staff is very nice and helpful but the room's cleanliness condition really needs to be improved. The room smells terrible - it really hit me when I first went into the room... and there was a dead fly and a dead roach in the fridge. But location is great and we stayed here so that we could go to the state park on the next day easily.

8/10 Very Good

Stayed at the Hillside Hotel for the first time since 2016 when it was named The Knights Inn. I arrived promptly at 3PM for check in and the office door was locked with a phone number posted to call which I did. A gentleman answered and said he would be right there. I was checked in within a few minutes and went to my room. Rooms are small compared to typical motels/hotels as the buildings are remodeled from an older hotel. The Knights Inn was associated with the Wyndham Group so the room I was in had the typical peach and maroon colored walls such as would be found at a Howard Johnson's. I don't know if the renaming of the facility to Hillside Hotel disassociated it from Wyndham or not. Room was clean and comfortable with the typical Wifi, cable tv, mini fridge and microwave. There was some wear and tear such as scuff marks on the entry door, and the bathroom door had joint compound on it to repair a hole. The A/C unit also seemed to have trouble cooling the room down....either undersized for the room or in need of maintenance. All in all, decent value for the price and I will return again in the future
