There’s a difference between mood lighting and living in a state of purgatory. When staying at a hotel, I expect it to be warm and inviting. Unfortunately, the reception, which doubles as part of the bar, is extremely dim—perhaps intentionally so, to distract from the state of the hotel. To add to the ambience, there’s background music, which seems to be part of the overall theme.
The lifts are almost entirely dark, with barely any light at all. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with visual impairments. The first room I was given had broken tiles and missing grout. While it may be a wet room, this is dangerous and a potential breeding ground for foot infections. The second room, although free from broken tiles, also had missing grout, and the tiles felt loose underfoot. Additionally, the curtain had been torn off its rail, and despite staying for two nights, there was no housekeeping service. The bin wasn’t emptied, the bed wasn’t made, and the refreshments weren’t replenished.
The only part of my stay that I actually enjoyed was the bar food and the bar staff.
