This is a gorgeous old home. You feel special when you walk in.

Unique property, very interesting mansion. Staff nice enough. Breakfast was milk put out with dry cereal and granola bars with some bananas and apples. There was coffee. No hot food. We had a small tub and a pitcher next to it to wash hair. No shower. Much older home- but it was an experience and we had fun.

Comfy and quirky.
It really wasn’t bad at all. The owners were nice, it’s an older place so common sense dictates things will be older. It was quiet, everyone was polite, other guests got along well, easy walk to all attractions.

I had a tire problem and Chad is being very helpful in solving it. Also being flexible on time breakfast served.

We enjoyed the family running this B and B. However they were new owners and not quite up to speed on a few things.

Wonderful Place
My husband and I stayed here and the Mansion was a beautiful place and the breakfast was great! We will return again! We will not stay anywhere else but here. The history on the Mansion was amazing as well.

History and future
My husband and I were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary last weekend. Prior to booking with Herzog Mansion B&B I spent 2 weeks to find the perfect place for what I was looking for. The age and history, location and amenities were perfect for us. The owners have recently purchased and are thrilled to continue restoration of the Mansion. My husband and I visited with Chad and his family about the different places to go and general information about Hermann, they were very knowledgeable. It was our first experience staying in a B&B and it was very nice and quite, full of history and a great homemade breakfast! We will return to Hermann Mo for many more weekends and we will always stay at the Herzog Mansion! Thank you so much for a great weekend!

Definitely Recommend To Freinds and Family
We spent two nights in the mansion. We just returned home and wanted to be sure to let others know as soon as possible about this wonderful house. This is a genuine mansion in every way. It gives you a chance to enjoy the opulence of the past with the convenience of the present. We had the best time and part of it was because we had the best sleep to make us rested and ready to have a day of adventure ahead of us. The only thing that surpassed the mansion was the hospitality and attention of the inn keepers. We will definitely go back and have already told everyone we know to visit at their earliest convenience. Many times we have seen houses that looked amazing on the outside and once you were inside disappointment set in due to the inside being outshined by the lavish outside. This was not the case. The inside lives up to everything the exterior promises.

Just re-opened
It has just re-opened after being closed for three years. Still needs a lot of work. Paint is peeling off the walls in some areas. the stove was not working so had to go into town for breakfast. With time and work it will be a nice place.

Very antique.
This is a true to word bed and breakfast. complete with a house full of antiques and a puzzle. The house was nice, very old. Keeper was great! Food was good.

8/10 Very good

This B&B (like many) is a big, old house, which means it has all the sounds and smells of an old house. We asked the owner and it turns out the house was built in the 1800s. It is beautifully furnished with solid antique furniture. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, which was quite comfortable and clean. We also spent some time in the game room, which has a pool table, TV and card table, with lots of board games in the cabinets. Breakfast was delicious, although we made the mistake of not showing up at precisely 8.30 and were berated a bit for that. The owner was polite and mostly kept to himself.

The Gasthaus need updating
The Gasthaus needs to be updated. I feel the price we paid was very high for the small out of date room we had. Also the bed was very uncomfortable. The food was very good and the gentleman in charge was hospitable.

2/10 Poor

Will not be back!
We were very disappointed in our stay at the Birk's Gasthaus. For the cost of our stay there, the room was not very clean and overall it was just an awkward experience. We won't be returning!

Don't let the website fool you
This is nothing like the website. In fact we were told it was the prior owners site. We were in room three. The sheets were balled up and looked like they had been slept in. The bathtub had soap scum In it as did the soap dish on the sink. There was a hole in the floor and plastic on the windows so you could not open the windows. The so called brass bed was missing pieces and squeeked every time you turned over. Dead bugs on the floor and you get the picture. We left after one night.

Octoberfest
We had never stayed at a bed and breakfast before so it was quite shocking how you could hear every single thing going on outside of your room. The house is an antique, I thought beautiful, just old and creaky. The breakfast was amazing and the owner just had surgery so he was a trooper doing all of that work. He, himself, was a dry sense of humor kind of person, but kind. We stayed in one of the shared bathroom rooms, which for as little as we were there ended up just fine. Hermann was stunning and made the trip worth every bit of quiet we felt we had to be in the B&B. That was really the biggest issue was the quiet. No one told us we had to be but we felt obligated and that was uncomfortable. We would stay there again as we loved the town so much! And he serves a great breakfast!

Disappointed
For the price of the room, we were completely underwhelmed. Beautiful old home but needs lots of TLC. Seemed very shabby. Room was hot and couldn't open windows. No shower - tub needed a good scrub. Dingy plastic pitcher.

Nice one night visit.
It is a very interesting house. Three stories tall. The steps from floor 2 to 3 are pretty steep. I don't have a lot of Bed and Breakfast experience but this was really nice. Our host did his best to accommodate everyone (including gluten free meal for one guest). Hermann, MO has a lot to offer from bicycling (what drew us) to wine to food.

Room for improvement
Birk's Gasthaus, now called Herzog Mansion, has some real pluses. There's plenty of room for decent-sized groups with lots of couples; it's conveniently located within walking distance of downtown Hermann, and the owner is very hospitable. There is room for improvement, however. This is an old mansion, and its age shows. It's obvious the owners are putting work into making improvements. But the home is so large. It looks like an overwhelming task. Our bed was cozy, but -- and I hesitate to sound snobby -- the sheets were not-so-great. I promise I'm not one of those bazillion thread count snobs, but the bottom sheet wouldn't stay on the bed, and the top sheet was just not soft. Our room had only a tub. No shower. I believe some rooms have showers, but if that's important to you, make sure you mention it when booking. Breakfast each morning was very good. That said, the dining room is somewhat institutional for a bed and breakfast. There's a lovely, formal dining room, but breakfast is served in a room with plastic table clothes. The food was great, though. We loved the big wrap around porch. It was a lovely place to sit and have a cup of coffee in the morning. We also really loved how spacious our room was. There are ample common areas where guests can sit and chat, play games or watch television. That was nice. The price was similar to other bed and breakfasts in the area. All in all, definitely worth a try! Enjoy.
