Just what we needed
Got exactly what i was expecting! We just needed somewhere safe and clean to sleep for a few nights. Not a roomy hotel or anything fancy but adequately priced for what you get.

The room was extremely tiny, but I won't complain. What was an issue was that the standing bath didn't drain water so I had ankle deep water while having bath and had to wash it after I come out. The cooling and Heating was messed up too.

Average comfort. Not fussy.
It was fine. Clean enough and comfortable enough for me. Traveling solo and did not spend much time in room. Free continental breakfast comes with room stay which was a Nice bonus. Location unbeatable. Close to everything downtown. I would stay there again. I’m not fussy.

Great room at the Rex Hotel. The jazz bar below was very cool! Our rook included a private bathroom and did eveything it needed to during the stay. The location was great and very central.

You Get What You Pay For
The Rex is a bit like a cleaner hostel with the option to have your own bathroom. But, what's important to note, is that the sheets and towels were all clean, the shower had good pressure and hot water, the bathroom was clean, and the air conditioning worked. They even give you extra pillows from the outset. That said, the walls are stained and full of nail holes, the furniture damaged, and the room very small. But you're also paying a third of what you would at a normal hotel. And the location is on point. If you just need a bed and a shower because you'll be out all night having fun anyways, I say go for it. I would stay there again. Why pay more for aesthetics?

Good location...but rooms are in rough shape.
Older rooms, in pretty shabby condition, which I sort of expected based on pictures. OVERWHELMING smell of cleaning product to the point I had to open window and leave the room. ...which was odd considering the hotel itself was not super clean. Great location. Staff were nice.

Small but clean rooms that's in the heart of downtown. Bathrooms are communal (& the hallways aren't the cleanest), but the individual room was clean & had a sink. Nice A/C unit as well to keep the room cool at night. The staff were friendly & let you store your bags on checkout for the day if needed. This hotel is in the heart of downtown, I was able to walk to Massey Hall, the Eaton Centre, and several other attractions within 15 minutes, highly recommend if you're a solo traveller!!

Not a fancy luxurious hotel, just enough to stay the night. If you’re travelling to Toronto for sightseeing and not relaxation in a hotel, The Rex Hotel is your best bet, great way to save on money. We stayed there for one night as 2 small young women, completely satisfied with the service, felt very safe staying there. Clean room, small complimentary breakfast included, no complains. In walkable distance to everything you would want to explore in Downtown. Multiple dining options nearby, also there is a cafe right next to it. Would definitely recommend and would visit again.

Rex Hotel
When we arrived, there was no welcome and an indifference by the one at reception. Not good for hospitality. During our 3-night stay, that same person often smoked int eh doorway, forcing us to walk through a cloud of smoke coming and going. I believe Toronto has a law restricting smoking in entrances up to 9 meters. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable and the air conditioner rattled through the night, waking me up at times. The room could use a paint job. The bathroom needs a towel rack and the toilet paper holder is inconveniently located 180 degrees behind the person as he sits. "Breakfast" was inconsistent and skimpy--two pieces of toast with coffee and juice, but sometimes coffee or juice. Why they call this breakfast is beyond me. Would not return.

This hotel is in a great location and the staff were lovely. The jazz club is loud but ends at a reasonable time, and the performances were good so it wasn’t a problem. I had a private bathroom, but I walked by the shared washroom facilities and they looked fine
