I've been coming to Italy 3 or 4 times a decade since 1968 and have stayed in a wide variety of hotels from Agrigento to Aosta--every region and most of the major provinces. Regina is very near the top of my favorites list. This was my third stay here, each a week or longer, the last in 2003. She was a dazzling beauty in her heyday back in 1911. Today she is the dowager Contessa, still strikingly attractive, although sporting a few wrinkles and a little arm flab, and ever eager to embrace you with a strong Italian hug.
If you are looking for a large flat screen TV, state of the art fitness room and other road warrior conveniences, go elsewhere. Regina is all about charm, welcoming warmth, and nostalgia. The staff will unflinchingly go above and beyond to meet you special needs, and the sumptuous buffet breakfast is a dieter's nightmare.
Lovers. romantics. and seekers of a long lost civilized charm will find satisfied comfort in the Contessa's hug.
Our most recent stay was during the run-up to this year's Ferragosto holiday and there was an overabundnace of late night amplified "music" from the piazza. The noise ended after midnight, but was very intrusive while it lasted.
