overpriced for what you get! not worth the stress
Hotel staff was rude and unhelpful. They double charged me for the room which was dirty, small, and had strong moldy. The neighborhood was central yet the area where hotel was located sketchy. Hotel Ferral seemed more like an establishment that charged by the hour rather that a hotel catering to tourists.

Great experience
Good budget hotel with average amenities. Location is not the best but, if you are careful, you can get by.

Very good for the price
The very best of this hotel is customer service and location. We appreciated the staff's courteousness. Kudos to everyone, especially Karla.

Cheap and convenient
I picked Hotel Ferrol because of its convenient location and price. The staff was friendly and helpful (although they don't speak much English), they changed the towels and sheets everyday, the bed was large and comfortable, and they had cable TV; my only complaints would be that the bathroom could've been a little cleaner and you could only get slow Wi-Fi in the lobby. Fortunately they have tables and chairs in the lobby for you to hang out or eat, and they have water to drink. It is right next to a bus station, subway, and the historic city center. It was as convenient as I had imagined and made me feel like a local, which is the experience I want when I go abroad.

Good bargain, saved us in a pinch.
We hadn't foreseen that on the 8th of Dec. the downtown Mexico hotels would be full. Our cab approached the hotel through a rough neighborhood, which was scary. Then the surroundings suddenly improved, and the hotel appeared--nothing special. The lobby turned out to be full of families, young travelers and musicians on gigs. The bell-boy helped us to our room without even waiting for a tip. We walked four blocks to a Sanborns around ten (don't do that any later) because there are no amenities other than vending machines and tables. The room was rudimentary, clean towels and sheets, and a TV. Actually, it's not far from Reforma and the Chopo Museum. It was cheap, so there's not much to complain about.

The basic necessities near the subway
We only stayed here for one night as we were going through Mexico City. We booked it on Expedia as one of the lowest cost hotels, however when we arrived they had a promotion on for half the price we paid on Expedia. A little disappointing as Expedia hasn't let us down in the past. This hotel is super basic. Bed, TV, bathroom, and that's it. The sheets were clean; yet the room was quite dirty. Lots of cigarette burns and stains on the carpet. We had a room with a window just to the inside of the building. It is fine for a one night when you are just passing through Mexico City. It was easy to get there on the subway from the bus station and then easy to leave on the subway to the airport the next day.

Hotel Ferrol-half decent location and budget price
The Hotel is decent. It is the type of hotel where you leave your key at the front desk when you leave and the front desk is behind a plexiglas wall. The room was basic and dated. It was however very clean. It has good hot water in the bathroom. The area a block away near the Metro station is colorful need I say more. It is full of street food and at night hookers stand around. I would not say it is dangerous, just not charming. After a day exploring in the city I did not really feel like coming back to the hotel. I would say if you can spend 10-15 dollars more you can be more happy.

Lovely people
I loved our hotel! it was in the centre of everything and we could walk to everything from our location, but easily accessible by public transportation as well. The service was great, and everyone at the hotel were super polite, kind and very helpful! I will miss them, and I want thank them for creating a very special experience for me. much love and respect! xox

Just for sleeping.
While this hotel is close to many tourist attractions, the neighborhood is not very good. Not expensive. The rooms are clean and there is enough space. Very basic. What I didn't like was the fact that they don't have a safe box, however you are obligated to leave your room keys every time you leave the hotel. It made me a little uneasy leave my belongings there. On the up side, there is free wi fi in the whole establishment. Another negative for me (in my very specific situation) was the lack of refrigerators available for the guests. My mom is diabetic and needs to keep her insuline refrigerated. Which leads me to the HUGE negative from this hotel and is the Front Desk staff. The ladies (specially one named Denise) were VERY unfriendly. Every time we approached them or they approached us, they had the worst attitude. When we explained the insuline situation and asked for help, we were left to our own devices. It seems like they don't know the meaning of good customer service and instead use the phrase "against the rules" very often as an excuse for not wanting to help us. Conveniently, the Manager was never available. If you are in the city on business or passing thru, this is a very good and cheap place to crash for the night. If you are with family (specially seniors or/and kids) I would recommend looking for something else.

bad location, beds not really good
The hotel is located in a bad area. Book a room with 2 queen beds, did not have told me that there is 2 big beds in a room, gave me 2 rooms with a double bed each, means that deceive people, then when we went to sleep the beds not mattress but had seemed wooden board of hard stones. my family could not sleep not recommend this hotel to anyone

It will be a nightmare
Somebody in the middle of the night starts a fight and nobody was in the desk to call police. They were making a lot of noise during approximately 2 hours and the ring on the desk didn't work. It was a nightmare. I never will visit this "hotel" again.

Good place to stay for a day or two
We had a good experience at Hotel Ferrol. The staff only speaks Spanish, and was exceptionally friendly. Although the beds were not very comfortable, everything was clean, there was plenty of hot water, and a flat-screen tv in our room. There was also a phone (that took phone cards) in the main lobby, and bottled water was available for purchase as well. We were in a room on the first floor that had a window out into the lobby, but not outside--not sure if all of the rooms are windowless or if it was just that level. We felt very safe staying at Hotel Ferrol, and recommend it as a place to stay for a short visit, one or two nights (honestly, any more than that and you might start to feel a little sore from the hard mattresses!). The hotel is within walking distance of many places to eat and explore.

Great for hotel for an affordable stay in downtown
Im a single guy, went down to mexico city for 4 days and was looking for a decent place to stay while there while i could explore the city. If thats your case, this hotel is perfect for you or even families. Clean rooms, hot showers and daily room services. Friendly staff and very helping. I didnt speak any spanish and the staff was always very helpful. It has free high speed internet so u can keep in touch with back home and everything, tv has many channels but all the channels are in spanish. The hotel itself is on Mina street which is one block from a main street called Hidalgo and Reforma. You couldnt find a better spot in downtown. Ofcourse its not a five star hotel, so dont expect supremely stylish and extravagant rooms, but it serves the purpose. the Bed gets a little used to sleep on, but thats a personal choice rather than a fault. Oh, and do not forget to take a 2 pin adapter if your electronic items use a 3 pin american outlet. The rooms have a 2 pin outlets, else you can buy it at radioshack but it will take you a little walking and if you are new to the city its a hassle.
