I went on a quick weekend trip to Munich with some friends and had been searching for places to stay for a while. Looking at the photos on the website, Smart Stay looked like one of the nicest hostels. Overall it was a fine stay, but you can tell they they do not care when it comes to upkeep of the area. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with extremely worn down couches that looked as if they were picked up from a dumpster on the side of the road. The rooms were extremely plain, which is fine, but a simple paint job would have made them come to life. This place is fine to stay and had everything we needed, but it didn’t really seem like they cared about going over the top and making it outstanding for guests. Room lighting is extremely dim, they offered food which was sold out the entire weekend and when I asked to call a taxi the front desk got the “busy tone” and then just told me I basically had to get a taxi myself. Overall, just really cosmetic issues were the main problem which is a super easy fix but such a shame they aren’t being done. Also, for anyone traveling and wanting to pack light, they do have towels you can rent for 1€ each and are more than happy to give you as many as you’d like.
