The room itself was absolutely fine (clean, etc), although the breakfast left something to be desired for the price. Our stay was interrupted twice by fire alarms. The first on the evening just before 8.30pm, when we were getting ready for a 9pm meal at the Hand and Flowers, and the second in the morning around 10am. Both times, we could not find anyone who knew what to do in the event of a fire alarm. In the evening the barmaids in the adjoining pub just shrugged at us and went about their business oblivious and unable to help us. Eventually, in the absence of anyone to advise us, we simply had to go back into our room with the fire bell ringing and finish getting ready (or face a hefty charge for not turning up to our 9pm table booked months previously!) In the morning, a similar state of affairs. The fire alarm went off again after using the shower and we had to rush to get clothes on and leave the room. Again, we could not find anyone to help us despite banging on various doors of the pub next door. We, again, elected to just go back in and get our stuff (no sign of a fire or anything resembling a fire) and leave immediately! We took a stroll and came back to get the car an hour later, ran into the boss, voiced our concerns at the complete and utter disorganisation of there being no one on site who could deal with a fire alarm (or two for that matter), we were promised a refund but it hasn't happened yet. Feel free to stay here if you want to risk it.
