After debating the pros & cons of various hotels in Puerto Madryn, I settled on the Hotel Peninsula Valdés. I was very pleased with my choice. The room was simple but attractive and comfortable with a great sea view (I could see whales cavorting in the water, even at a distance.) The breakfasts were delicious and the food plentiful - I especially enjoyed the variety of Argentine pastries, the savoury items, and the "hot milk" dispenser for morning coffee. The restaurant fare was excellent as well. (On my first night, I enjoyed a delicious "ojo de bife" [rib eye, I think] and a salad made from arugula, tomatoes, and shaved Parmesan for a very reasonable price.) The Hotel is across the street from the beach and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and many of the major tour providers. There is a spa on site as well. I'm a pretty straightforward, easy-to-please traveler, so the hotel might not be as deluxe as some would prefer. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay and found the staff to be helpful, warm, inviting, and highly professional. I would stay here again. Highly recommended.
