Walking into this Best Western, we were greeted by western and Native American decor and a friendly front desk staff. The place has good character — as east coast visitors to Arizona, we felt like we were “out west.” There’s a nice pool and fire pit area, and I especially liked the separate hot tub area with a little pine tree next to it. It’s not a new building, but our room was clean and seemed a little bigger than newer chain hotels. The bathroom light heater was nice touch. Overall, we just really liked staying here more than newer, bland chain hotels.
Pros: nice staff, cleanliness, western decor, woodsy location, a fun gift shop with Grand Canyon and other regional souvenirs, a breakfast buffet, a decent restaurant and bar.
Cons: too-soft mattress (we had to keep from rolling into the middle), breakfast buffet coffee was instant from a machine.
