Not Quite the Luxury We Remember
We returned to the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour after a previous stay that was genuinely lovely. Sadly, this visit didn’t live up to that memory.
Maybe it was the school holidays, but the atmosphere felt more chaotic than calm. The pool—once a peaceful retreat—was completely overrun with kids. We’re parents ourselves, so we get it, but this was next level. Towels were scattered everywhere, public areas were messy, and (surprisingly) there was even a security guard at the pool. Not exactly the 5-star luxury vibe we came back for.
The room was fine. Comfortable enough, but definitely not standout. The highlight was the breakfast—great variety, fresh food, and lovely service. But overall, it feels like the Sofitel is having an identity crisis. If it wants to be a family-friendly resort, that’s fine. But right now, it’s missing the mark for guests expecting a refined, luxury experience.
