Nightmare experience started as soon as we got to room: it smelled heavily (musty) and there were disgusting stains in supposedly cleaned bed covers (see attached pictures). We complained and receptionist, as well as hotel manager (tall, skinny guy with mustache), refused to change the bed sheets and covers, and much less to move us to another room, arguing in terrible manners that there was something wrong with our sense of smell (only reason we stayed is because it was a long holiday weekend and everything else was booked).
We insisted the next day and managed to get a new room for the following two nights (we had prepaid three nights through Expedia). Nightmare continued regardless: as we came back to room from dinner, we found rat feces on bed and bed-site table, and actually heard the rat in our bathroom (there was no one in Reception to whom to complain that night). The following morning, we finally could complain and receptionist literally responded that it had been our fault because we had failed to place a water bottle on top of the bathroom drain cover and "had to understand we were in the jungle."
Do not be mistaken: this was not a "cheap hotel" by any stretch of the mind. For what we paid, this was nothing to be expected what so ever.
So if you really want to have an awful experience and feel cheated and frustrated, go ahead and stay at the Perhentian Tropicana Inn.
