Stellar Customer Service
Stellar customer service is the hallmark of this property. Pablo, the owner’s nephew was the hotel manager and he went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We were one of two guest rooms booked during this off season, and when I inquired about where we could find dinner, he said they could prepare some for us and what time would we like to eat? We were the only ones eating, yet he made sure he turned on the music for atmosphere. The breakfast (included with your room) was delicious. The hotel itself is situated closest to Tiwanaku and rooms with views of the monument are recommended. Pablo arranged for us to meet an English-speaking guide at Tiwanaku (make sure you book in advance as there are only 3 English speakers right now). When the time came to leave , we asked about a taxi to La Paz and Pablo offered to take us himself! Couldn’t ask for better customer service! Thank you so much, We highly recommend!

Conveniently located for a visit to the Tiwanaku ruins (next door), this hotel makes an ok stop after crossing the border from Peru at Desaguadero. It bills itself as '4-star', but it's not really. Spacious hotel has seen better days and feels a bit neglected inside. Very friendly and helpful staff, and a decent meal was provided (although the restaurant was not open). Secure parking was a plus. Bed was completely knackered and felt like most of the springs had collapsed. Water warmish-hot after about 5 mins of running the tap. Good wifi was a suprise.

The hotel was next to the Tiwanaku archaeological site and therefore a perfect place to stay. Friendly host, warm water. Rooms were clean.

This property advised as a 4 star hotel. The rooms are cold, no heat. Uncomfortable bed, no tv, old furniture, not even hangers for your clothes. Expedia overcharges for the room, saying that the hotel is fully booked. I think I was the only guest, haven't seen anyone else. In the future I will avoid using Expedia because they always overcharge for hotel rooms.

The staff was excellent and went out of their way to make sure everything was fine The property was located at the best location for visiting Puma Punku and Tiwanaku. Heating could be better.

37 degrees out and no heat. Our room was filthy. Garbage left in room from previous guest. No staff in hotel after 10pm, lights turned out in hallways, etc. very flimsy door, and people knew which rooms were occupied because other rooms had keys in keyhole. Felt unsafe. The heat was the biggest problem though. Froze to death

We have been the place 2 years ago. It was packed. This trip, it seems we had arrived in off season. The gigantic hotel only host a few international travelers, which is not a bad idea. The Hotel is just right next to the Tiwanaku site: walk out the door in 1 min, you are at the ticket booth. We were planing to take 2 days to enjoy the sites ( 2 museums and 2 sites), however, the expensive ticket seems valid for only the same day. We talked with the guard and mentioned we stayed at Hotel Akapana, it actually worked out. This is Hotel designed for hardcore Tiwanaku fever enthusiasts! Enjoy the breakfast which having the Sun Gate and Moon Gate in your sight. If Owner Rosario is at Hotel, she was in New Jersey 20 plus years, it will be easier to communicate in English. Kitchen can provide lunch and dinner, but we have to mention it before hand, they will need to prepare the materials fresh. If you go, don't forget to grab a local beer or wine from their inventory. $10 a bottle of wine...not bad! Don't forget to explore their big court yard, there is a friendly dog who is very happy to meet new friends. If you ran out of Bolivianos, Wilie in the hotel can help you. Veronica and Ms. in the kitchen, will try to make a pancake for you in the morning, if you mention it to them. If you like star gazing, it is fairly quiet during the night!

This hotel places you one block from the entrance to the archeological site of Tiwanaku. Willy, who is managing Hotel Akapana, is knowledgeable about the history and significance of the site, but further, is a really nice guy who does whatever he can to help you with your stay. Very nice meals are available at the hotel as well. I recommend.

It was close to Tiwanaku and the museum. It also looked nice on the outside. The roof leaked in the lobby. I took a shower and got shocked by electricity when I tried touching the water valves. I had to get out of the shower, dry myself off, put my rubber flip flops just to be able to turn the water off. It was the only shower I took, it is 220 volts here and it kind of hurt. I did tell the manager.

Is a bit run down. Maintenance is clearly not a priority and the design was such that problem were to be expected. Water in the shower doesn't drain. Hotel is a bit noisy. Staff is OK, but a smile here and there would be nice. Internet OK. No secure parking, but it's on the corner of 2 quiet streets. The Tiwanuka ruins are about 200 m, walking from the hotel.

Pleasant stay in a tiny town.
Decent hotel in walking distance to the sights. There was WiFi and warm water for the shower. Hotel has no heat and it gets cold there but they have heavy blankets and offer you more. Just bring warm clothes anyway.

During the breakfast, you can admire Tiwanaku.....
Tiwanaku is an ancient site which 4th Inca King Inca Maita Capac who was standing and admiring as we just did these days. Crossing boarder from Peru into Bolivia is already an experience. Hotel Akapana is ran by a warm hearted Tiwanaku native, who happened to be in US for years and decide to come home to build a hotel for people to admire Tiwanaku easily. She is totally speaking in American English, that makes our life much easier at this part of world. We have our breakfast, dinner and lunch all at 3rd floor restaurant, Rosera's cooking is wonderful. During the breakfast, we can see the Tiwanaku ruins, Akapana pyramid right from the window. Museums are just 1-2 minus walking distance across the street. Puma Punku is only 3-5 minutes walking by taking the short cut cross the filed at 1 o'clock direction out of the hotel gate. Next time, I will spend at least two days in order to enjoy the Museums( 1-2 hours for each ), Tiwanaku ( 5-6 hours) and Puma Pumku (2-3 hours.)

Convenient and helpful staff
The management were really helpful at arranging things for us and giving us advice on the local area. It was cold and there is no heating in the rooms, which are comfortable but basic. Breakfast was nice and the hotel was really convenient for the local sites

A good idea badly executed
This is the best hotel in Tiwanaku but it is not great. It tries hard to be a class act but is understaffed, cold, cleanliness could be better and totally a mess. No wifi and they don't take card payments.
