Please don’t stay here if you are foreigner and no car. The front desk staff just excused she can’t speak English then throw me the QR code to read by myself. I have been to many onsen hotels in Japan. The service in Shiretoko Daiichi is not comparable to the others. I can say it is the worst onsen hotel. The plates are sooo dirty at restaurant. I can’t believe it’s in Japan! The staff never greet me when they see me. Only plus point is the room is big. But they gave me a very noisy room which is next to onsen. I couldn’t sleep well cos I can hear people walk pass my room.

A huge but clean and well maintained property. The dinner and breakfast buffets were well stocked with varieties, quantities and quality to please most palates. The onsen is big and the outdoor pool offers a panoramic sea view. The view of the sunset is especially mesmerizing. Don’t miss it.

The staff of the hotel was more than perfect: we arrived in an awful rainstorm, and they sent us a shuttle, so we didn’t have to go up to the entrance. In another event, someone at the lobby helped me navigate a Japanese only website to get a reservation for a bus service. The hotel is on a hill, and the upwards road is around 20 minutes from the bus central. It’s much - much! - easier if you have a car. It can be grueling if you have big bags or if you spent the day hiking. The hotel itself is elegant and enormous. I didn’t use the onsen, but people seemed to love it. There is a laundry room, an arcade and a massage room, and also a store inside the hotel where you can buy snacks, souvenirs and drinks. The breakfast and dinner was fantastic buffet style event. They had great varieties of both western and Japanese style foods, plus desserts, soups and everything in between. Seriously, this was the best hotel dining we’ve ever had in Japan! The rooms were big (enormous even) and sunny, the bathroom was very nice and of course everything was very clean. One of my favourite stays in Japan, ever. (again: it’s much better if you have a car, and you don’t have to climb the roads after a full day of hiking.)

Beautiful location, very large hotel , large room, huge windows with amazing view. I did not eat at the restaurant but used the large hot springs and enjoyed the many pools. The problem is that the hotel smells bad with musty carpets, elevators smell like smoke , the room carpet was very old and stained and the toilet room smelled horrible. The hotel is in desperate need of renovations and new carpets. It is so huge that it feels uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

The room is spacious, bright and clean. However, the private onsen is old and rusty. The sink, faucet, metal handle bars and anything metal around the onsen is corroding pretty badly. I turned the faucet handle on the faucet and my hand smelled like rust even after washing it. There is also rust on the tile floor. The private onsen needs full renovation and shouldn't be used by anyone in these conditions.

However, if you book in winter and the weather is not good, especially windy days, and your room is facing the ocean, the sound/noise of waves and tides are too penetrating. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style with generous spread. However, I feel the heating is not good and the food are mostly not warm, especially for dinner. The location is on a small hill/slope and not very convenient to walk around. It’s better to come with self-driving/car. The town is small.

The large public bath made with jade stone from Myanmar is absolutely clean, large, comfortable and mysterious. The room with all furnitures and electric appliances i stayed is brand-new. The one thing I was disappointed about was one of bed in the room was too small(narrow width) which make me not sleep well. The check out time is 10:00am which was a little bit early for me.

Very large hotel. Very helpful staff. On checkout day there had been heavy snow the nightmare whihc might have prevented me getting to the aiport. Staff were on top of situation and had already offered an extra night at a discounted rate if I was unable to depart as planned. In the end it wasnt needed but I was allowed to delay my check out time. Also helpful with sending diving gear ahead of check in

The onsen was wonderful. The hotel provided different onsen experiences that guest could choose from and the onsen area was very spacious. We also enjoyed the food selection offered at the Viking dinner and breakfast. I would highly recommend purchasing the dinner. It’s something you don’t want to miss.

Eastern Hokkaido trip
Nice, large hotel overlooking ocean from a hill. Great, huge room. Buffet dinner and breakfast were very good. Onsen was excellent. Did the boat cruise but ran out of time to do the 5 lakes.
