Tum Mai Kaew is about 2km from town, which is an easy walk of about 25 minutes. The rooms are new with air conditioning, satellite tv and comfortable beds. Part of the reason I chose Tum Mai was for the satellite tv and movies, which I thought would be nice at night, however, there was nothing at all in English, which was disappointing. I was also surprised that the standard rooms have no separation between the shower and toilet. While this is common in older accommodations in Thailand, in a new accommodation, I would have thought they would have some sort of separation. I hate having the entire bathroom floor wet after a shower. Another minor issue that bothered me was that I kept finding tiny ants in the bed. I understand Lanta is a tropical island, but I couldn't figure out how and why these ants kept appearing in my bed. The walls are paper thin, which can be an issue if your neighbours aren't considerate. The wifi was a bit spotty, as the power went out for about an hour or so per day, but when it was working, it worked well. The hotel rents scooters and they are in good shape, but they asked for my passport as security. Tourists should never surrender their passports. I let them hold my license, which is kind of amusing, considering I was driving a scooter. The managers have the absolute cutest daughter ever. She's super friendly and adorable. Overall, not a bad stay at all, but I would get a deluxe room next time for the separation of the toilet and shower.
