We had a large Japanese style corner room with open-air bath. The bath had windows that opened, so you could soak whilst looking out over the city to the mountains. I just wish we'd had more time to enjoy it, (we were only there overnight).
The staff were expecting us and we were given a wheatgrass drink and cake whilst checking in.
The room was large and the futons comfy. Giving us washbags with complementary towels was a nice touch, as was providing hot water in a thermos for us to make tea.
The hotel provided a vegetarian meal for me and my younger son, (and gave us a cash refund as what we ate was less than the 'half board' kaiseki). They were able to cater for my older son's peanut/nut allergies. Breakfast was spectacular, (a vegetarian Japanese breakfast was provided for me and my younger son.
We booked an eve session in one of the rooftop onsens at no extra cost.
There is a lovely gift shop in the lobby.
The hotel is easy to find by using the no.32 bus at stop no.1 outside Matsumoto station. Get a map from the hekpful staff in tourist information, (in the station) and ask them to mark the hotel on the map.
Don't expect to do anything outside the hotel in the evening. It's in a residential area - the hotel IS the destination.
I would go back to Matsumoto just to stay in this hotel - it was that good. I have stayed in some pretty nice hotels, at various places around the world, and this was up there with the bes for me. It is just a really lovely place.
