The hotel has a lot of character but the rooms, at the back of the hotel, are characterless. The corridor and the rooms are painted white, which definitely does not go with the rest of the hotel. It's stark like a 70's motel. We stayed on one of the hottest days of the year and as the windows only open about 5 inches, we had to rely on a fan provided in the room. It wasn't a comfortable that night.
The shower was modern but no shelf was provided to have washing items conveniently located during a shower, everything had to be placed on the floor. There was no handrail for the shower, a necessity for older guests like ourselves.
We were only told that the hotel was having problems with staffing when we arrived and no food was available for the night of our stay. There is plenty of eating establishments close by but Southwell does seem to be affected worse than some towns by Covid.
Don't hotel managers/owners watch "The Hotel Inspector', time and again she highlights the failings in an hotel that impact badly on the customers experience.
