6/10 Good

Value for money and a good location for exploring the Brecon Beacons. Didn’t always seem to get hot water coming through and the shower was quite small, but otherwise a good stay. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room, overall a great low budget option.

Rhymney hotel a hidden gem
My partner and myself had a lovely stay. The staff are very friendly , polite and professional , with nothing being too much trouble. The venue itself is on a hill with lovely view of the surrounding fields. It has a olde worlde feel with beautiful oak beams as part of its pub features and brass adornments on the wall. The bedrooms are clean and inviting with full tea and coffee making facilities , TV and shower and we had a good night's sleep waking up refreshed in the morning. . We partook of their dining facilities the night we checked in ,, having an evening meal , their menu choices were excellent including venison and rabbit dishes to name but two and the food was mouthwatering and delicious . Their prices are very competitive providing value for money We also ordered drinks with a pint of Ale and a cider coming to under £6 a round. .Morning breakfast which is included in the price had a good choice of cereals , toast , cooked breakfast , coffee, tea, orange juice , we opted for cooked breakfast and coffee and were not disappointed. Checking out was as easy and effortless as checking in we simply handed the key back . It is the second time we have stayed at the Rhymney hotel and we have plans to stay again in the not too distant future

6/10 Good

It was OK for a one night stay; the bed was squeeking every time we turned on it (did not sleep well because of it), there wasn't a curtain so the room was lit up from sun-up and it looked like there hadn't been vacuumed in a while. The breakfast was lovely though, and the folks running the place were friendly and accomodating.

We had a really lovely stay here last weekend, the landlord was very welcoming and helpful and the chef was also very helpful and attentive. The pub had a great local atmosphere in the evening, and we really enjoyed our stay. The room was also very clean.

Could not ask for more, exactly what is expected from a Welsh valley !

10/10 Exceptional

The hotel exceeded our expectations, we didn't expect 4-5 star service from the budget hotel with such low price, and we read through the previous reviews, so we really expected an old traditional place rather than modern network hotels. However it was better than in the reviews. The hosts are very kind and helpful, the breakfasts and dinners were excellent. It's incredible how 1 woman can cook so many delicious meals for guests. The owners are such hardworking people! The room was very clean. So actually for this low price we got a clean room, hot water, cosy bed, delicious British breakfast. The only drawback was the internet speed, it was very slow, but we stopped there for the hiking and exploring nature, so low internet speed could be a part of the whole plan to get rest of city civilisation. It was a bit chilly in the room but we asked the owner and he immediately brought us an additional heater, we didn't turn it on though because it wasn't that bad.

Ideal for a business trip
Stayed as part of the business trip in the area The look of the place is a very 70s looking traditional countryside pub and hotel which gave a unique character to the place The staff were amazing and incredibly helpful and looked after us nothing was any trouble at all Would definitely stay again for a business trip

Small hotel with a big heart
Tired little hotel in need of some love, but full of character and the friendliest staff you could wish for. Allowed me to bring my mountain bike inside. Will definitely stay again ❤️

6/10 Good

The property is in need of updating, it is looking tired and dated. from the first sight it looked abandoned and the parking area is in need of cleaning and the rubbish taken away. My room was at the top of the building , which was fine for me but the hand basin had no hot water which i did report and there were many cobwebs around the window. On the whole the room was comfortable and warm. The food was good and the local cider tasty

Not Good
No heating on to save money !!!
3-night trip

2/10 Poor

Shabby. Run down. Food adequate but mediocre. Cheap. No soaps etc. layout of room awful eg no drawers , hangers over the table .. unless you’re tall, forget it! Staff ok but not trained. I don’t think the owners have ever seen what a hotel should be ! The bar is very rough , felt uncomfortable in it . all old retired miners ., floor soft in parts , I’m worried I’d fall through! Dangerous step at foot of stairs. Despite sign, it’s lethal ! Better off finding a holiday in. Rhymney and Tredegar are ghastly poor areas. Very rough. Avoid.

2/10 Poor

A venue trapped in outdated views and cold rooms.
A place trapped in the 70s... Came here for a little trip away to have a look around the Welsh countryside and valleys, upon arrival was met by a landlord called Tony who was lovely to talk to, he mentioned that our floor (at the top) ahead no heating as their boiler was broken and that they had an electrician coming out to look into it, we weren't exactly thrilled with the prospect of a cold room but thought we could muscle through. By the second night we were frozen, the room was so cold we could see our breath, we asked the lady running downstairs who gave my partner an equally frosty reception if we could grab some extra blankets and she told my partner that no, intact the heating does work however they simply don't want to pay the energy prices. This would be so bad if it wasn't £60 a night but you could easily stay in a premier Inn for cheaper and in a room much more up to date. After having a little tiff we said that due to the awkwardness we would be leaving the following morning which we did. I've attached a few photos of the decor but more disturbingly the bed bug decayed duvets inside the cover. I will say the food was good for the price and breakfast is a bonus but to blame the energy crisis for leaving your guests room freezing is just not good enough and staff need a course in customer satisfaction. Won't be coming back unfortunately :(
