If you are coming to Blaye to see the fortress, the Auberge du Porche is perfect situated, about a five minute walk away. There may be other hotels a few minutes closer but they would either be right on D669 or up in the neighborhood, which is not particularly attractive. You get a little street noise from D669 at the Auberge if you are on the street side and have the windows open in the afternoon and early evening, but you are not right on the highway and it dies down after rush hour. If the windows are closed, it is negligible even in the afternoon.
Good restaurants nearby; we ate at Le Carma and La Marina and liked them both very much. A few doors away from Le Carma is a cheese shop, but within a block or so from the Auberge on the route to the fortress, is a tabac, a little food store, and, if necessary or desirable, a little lingerie shop and a florist.
A good choice of breakfast options at reasonable prices; very pleasant and helpful staff. Good WiFi strength. Various little sitting areas in the hallways, a little living room downstairs and an outdoor terrace.
