    The Birmingham Back to Backs is the last surviving court of back-to-back houses in the city. They are preserved as a historic house museum to represent the way houses were once constructed around shared courtyards. The houses were constructed in 1821 and used to house workers in industries like glasswork, woodworking, button making, tailoring and leatherwork until 1966. 

    On a tour of the back-to-back houses, you can experience life in the past, with each of the 4 houses decorated in a style of the 1840s, 1870s, 1930s and 1970s. The museum hosts educational events, such as demonstrations of rag rugging, candlelit tours and historic anecdotes. After your tour, be sure to stop in the Candies Sweet Shop, an old-fashioned 1930s sweet shop, for some treats.
