Fresh Markets are a very important aspect of Phuket and Thai social life. They not only provide basic elements for cooking and affordable clothing, but they also offer a glimpse into local life and are, in many ways, a kind of cement that holds Thai society together.

Stroll through the lanes of any market in Phuket and you’ll enter into the core of Thai life. All your senses will be on alert as you’ll discover new smells (sometimes enticing; sometimes repulsive) and new sights like exotic fruits and seafood. The markets below have all that can be experienced at Thai markets that are not only shopping or dining destinations, but also a full attraction in themselves.

Banzaan Market is a modern-looking Thai fresh market on Sai Kor Road, right behind Jungceylon Shopping Mall in Patong. Designed by Chinese and Western architects, the large building features contemporary décor and style. Banzaan Market is a very clean place, and all goods(Thai sweets, meat, fish, seafood, vegetables and fruits) are neatly presented. Banzaan Market also sells clothes, shoes, toys and gifts. A large food court occupies the 2nd floor, where you can sample local delicacies at fair rates.

Ranong Road is the commercial heart of Phuket Old Town, and 2 markets are open daily here. Talad Sod Satarana is located right on Ranong Road. It’s open from 5am and you can find all types of goods here, including fresh and dried ingredients, food, and clothing.

The Downtown Market is one of the oldest fresh markets in Phuket. Opened mostly 24/7, it's located in a small soi (alley) off Ranong Road, diagonally opposite Talad Sod Satarana. Vegetables, meat, fish and seafood, exotic fruits, condiments and ready-made dishes are available here. Many vendors from other markets in Phuket come to do their shopping at Downtown Market (wholesalers park their trucks at the back of the market, opposite Downtown Inn).

The market has a wide range of fresh products – fruit, vegetable, meat and fish – and a section dedicated to clothing, souvenirs, toys, massage oils to religious artefacts, As with most Thai markets, it's also a great place to sample local snacks at affordable prices. Kamala Village Market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, right at a foothill that separates Kamala from Patong. It's a colourful and lively market that gives you a glimpse of daily life in southern Thailand and a chance to find local products.

Kamala Village Market also hosts stalls selling accessories, clothing, and delicious ready-made snacks. On Fridays, a larger market (known as FantaSea Market because it's just opposite the huge entertainment complex) offers a smaller version of the Phuket Weekend Market.

Cherng Talay Market is very lively and gives you a peek into the local life of this quiet area of Phuket. The main items available are obviously fresh fruit and vegetable, as well as seafood, poultry and beef. This fresh market is very busy, so it may be difficult to find a spot to park your vehicle.

Like most southern Thailand markets, you also find ready-made local food and a few stalls selling clothing and accessories. Cherng Talay Market is right opposite the Cherng Talay Police Station, on the road that leads to the Laguna Phuket Complex of hotels.
