I've had ups and downs during a short stay in this hotel, but the downs were solely related to the other guests during breakfast. The staff, the pool and sauna area, the room, and the location were all super nice. We were even surprised with a room upgrade upon arrival 🤗 Also, this is potentially the best-cleaned room I've ever experienced in Norway (seriously).
I would just suggest having someone check the room/hour booked for breakfast and communicating that you can only go to breakfast at the designated time slot. Otherwise, you won't be let in. Despite having a system where guests can book a breakfast slot, almost no one respects that. The outcome is that breakfast is overcrowded, with many disrespectful people leaving mess everywhere. That is the one thing I hated during my stay.
I know that the hotel staff is trying to put things in "order," and that is appreciated. I mean, the fact that you can reserve a time to go to the pool when there are no kids around and the fact that the pool is open until 11:00 PM were highlights. And please, please don't ever change that!
All in all, I recommend staying here. The breakfast won't be the most pleasant experience during weekends, but all the other things make Scandic Royal an excellent hotel in Stavanger.
P.S. I've seen others commenting that the hotel is too loud. My room window faced Folken (a concert house), and there were people partying outside, but I couldn't hear anything as long as my window was closed.
