Great hotel with amazing breakfast.
Very nice hotel. Great staff, amazing hot breakfast, super soft towels, and good pressure in the shower (felt like a massage). It seems the hotel had seen some bad times and it is being slowly and steadily being improved. Value for money and better than several higher priced hotels in New Mexico.

2/10 Poor

Old, not clean, looks like was not occupied for long time the room, dirty bathroom, sink, doors and mirror. Fresh paint so did not smell bad. Ok to stay for night if nothing else available.

Nice room. Great breakfast options. Friendly staff. Patrons a little strange, but not hotels fault. Offered snacks for purchase at front desk. Would stay again.

This is a gem of a hotel, which we picked for our trip from TX to CA. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The stay came with 2 tokens for drinks at the bar - the on tap IPA was excellent. Heated salt water pool, food truck on-site, amazing artwork and a real mid 20th century feel. Everything we could wish for.

The room was very dirty. The floors were not swept and definitely not mopped. The counters were not wiped down and the mirrors were dirty. The lobby bathroom was a disaster. There was feces all over the women’s restroom.

Econo road trip
This is an older place trying to make a comeback. The value for my money would make me stay again. Low cost, reasonable property, reasonable hot breakfast and efficient staff. If you’re looking for a super clean and immaculate place, don’t stay here. Looking for value and a place to sleep, you found it.

Overall the property just looks creepy, the breakfast was not good, things were either overcooked or expired (yogurt expired 3 weeks ago). The room was clean but smelled awful and we felt unsafe.

Breakfast was very limited. We were there 3 mornings and all mornings there wasn’t much. Our room was very clean. The whole motel needs some updating. They are in the process but they have a ways to go. They advertise a restaurant and a lounge but they are presently closed.

Gross- Skip it!
We were in Carlsbad for a one night as part of a long road trip. We chose this hotel due to its proximity to the caverns. What a wreck! We checked in at 1am, after having been on the road all day, and we were exhausted. The girl who handled the check in was extremely cold and unfriendly. We opened the door to our room and got slapped with the strongest cigarette smell. It was overwhelming! We were too tired to complain, and since we were planning on leaving early in the morning we just dealt with it. The beds were so hard, there were not enough blankets, the paint in the room was chipped. The bathroom floor had cigarette ashes all over it- even behind the toilet! Oh and the toilet- disgusting! The shower pressure was wonderful but that’s where the positivity ends! The shower drain was slow, causing the water to fill past my ankles and when I looked down I saw a wad of hair floating around! The shower curtain was stained, and there was dust and hair everywhere. The breakfast was okay. The woman who was working in the morning when we went down to breakfast was really sweet- but aside from her this place is an absolute dive.

Property was okay for our purpose being out in Carlsbad. Shower drain was very slow and caused the drain to smell real bad that would leak out of the restroom if the door wasn’t closed. We did find some live baby roaches too on the walls and close to our sealed snacks. Breakfast bar had a lot of machinery out of service.

Wi-Fi you shouldn’t stay here
The location of the hotel had very poor cell service so I was depending on the Wi-Fi to get things done. I could never log onto the Wi-Fi on my phone so I went to the front desk and he had me try another room but the room he gave me had disconnected plumbing, so I had to go back to the front desk and get another room and in that third room the Wi-Fi still was not working. I gave up because they couldn’t help me. If you’re interested in watching TV, there was no TV guide on the screen and there was no channel list on paper provided so you couldn’t look on the paper and directly input a station. Who wants to just scroll through channel by channel to find what you’re looking for. Don’t stay here.

Eventhough the hotel is under new mgmt & our room (#108) & beds were clean, there were stains on the walls they could've cleaned. Breakfast is passable: It has sausages, eggs, english muffins w/ gravy but no fruits. The pancakes & juice machines were broken though they gave little boxes of OJ & apple juices. Overall, this hotel Econolodge is a great location to explore Carlsbad Caverns NP & it suited us bc we're only staying the night(s) to sleep & on-the-go the next day(s). If you want to enjoy your room , I would suggest to pay more for other well known nearby hotels. Btw there's a Shell gas station & McD w/in walking distance & we decided to eat @ Mariscos de Bucheron. It's a quaint little family owned Mexican restaurant (food is excellent).
