Well, where to start?
First of all, it's not made clear that this is actually run by Avoca, and it's not clear that you have to go in to the pub next door to get the keys to the room.
Worked that out by accident rather than design anyway, and got the keys to Room 4.
Upon entering it was very clear that the room had either not been cleaned at all, or was cleaned very poorly.
The first impression was that maybe somebody had just finished using it, to be honest.
I had paid for a superior double:
There were remnants of a "white substance" on the couch, a partially used blister packet of tablets on the bedside locker. Upon checking the bed after seeing that, the sheets were a little stained, (as was the carpet actually, and there were a few short curly hairs on the bedsheet.
Also very bad pealing of the wall, presumably due to damp, at the window.
I returned to the pub and requested a change of room. The staff member obliged with a change of room and we were given No 6.
Not the superior room that was originally booked, only a standard double, but no partial refund was offered. I was actually told the room was the same price.
On first inspection the room was at least clean so we accepted it. It was nearly 9pm so we weren't going to start looking elsewhere at that time.
(Noticed the cobwebs in the ceiling lampshade later on!)
On a positive note, they were very obliging to us with regards to parking our bikes securely out the back, for which we were very grateful.
