This was our third stay at the Ashburn over the years. It is difficult to find what passes in London for moderately priced rooms that are not tiny. The Ashburn does offer that. It is not posh - the furniture is old fashioned and worn. But for us, that's a trade worth making. It's quite near the Gloucester Road tube station, which is on the Picadilly, Circle and District lines, the lines we use most often.
The service was good - we had a few issues - my husband is tall, the bed seemed shorter than the last time we were there, but after discussing it with the staff, we realized we could pull it away from the headboard a little and that mitigated the problem - if you are more than 6'2 that could be a problem for you. Also the air conditioning is centrally controlled, and if someone wants it warmer or colder than you do, that's a problem, as they have to choose who to make uncomfortable - we were facing the street and with the windows open it was very noisy, so that wasn't a solution (with the windows closed, no noise issue execpt we could hear the train, but didn't bother us). We got a fan and problem solved. One note - the last time we stayed, it was during a horrible heatwave and we had no problem at all with the air con, so the capacity is fine.
The lady in the breakfast room was lovely.
