This hotel is a great base for exploring the Yarra Valley. It's a quirky old building with many original Victorian features, including a very creaky main wooden staircase and an equally creaky four-poster bed (Melba suite). Antique furniture abounds, the lighting is dim and the reverse cycle AC effective. We were also able to park on the main street right outside the hotel, as we arrived after 2.30pm (it's a 3-hour zone until 5.30pm, then unrestricted), which was great as we had international-sized cases. We had no need for the provided earplugs, despite staying on the Friday night of a holiday weekend. The self-service continental breakfast included what appeared to be house-made preserved fruit and yoghurt (which were delicious) as well as some very fresh pastries, along with several types of toast bread, fruit juices and commercial cereals; barista coffee was included and made to order. We'd love to return.
