I booked a room and paid via hotels.com the day of my stay, from St. Paul, as part of a trip, just looking for a place to sleep a few hours before starting out again.
At the time, the site said there were, like, 5 rooms available, so got through every screen and was confirmed, so I thought I was good to go.
I started out toward the stay on a 3.5 hour drive, and with about 45 minutes to my destination, at around 8:30 pm, I get a call from the hotel saying they overbooked and I was out of a room. They were able to give me a refund, but as far as helping me find a different room or a stipend of some sort to find a place to stay that may have been more expensive, they were not willing to help. The person making the call seemed ok, but management was less than helpful.
I would be incredibly wary of booking this stay.
