Living the Dream
My wife and I stayed at South Beach Residence for a week. We wanted a quiet place to stay that was away from the touristy areas, which is exactly what we got staying here.
The hotel is close to Ling & Son's grocery store, maybe a 5 minute walk. You'll have to get used to not having sidewalks if you want to walk (we did multiple times without any issue) but it is an adjustment if you're used to more formal sidewalks and crosswalks. I told my wife that they're used to it, we're not. I don't believe it is out of the ordinary or unexpected for the local people to see pedestrians along the side of the road.
When we arrived, we found a portion of the hotel to be under construction by accidentally going into the wrong room marked 2. One of the buildings is under construction but the rest of the property has been recently renovated.
I made up a story of the hotel that I'm not sure whether or not it is true, but it holds up in my mind. I believe that Amir recently spent his life savings to purchase this property which I believe may have been an apartment complex. It was recently renamed South Beach Residences as most of the taxi drivers weren't familiar with that name, but once we showed them where it was, they were able to find it easily.
If my story about Amir spending his life savings to own and renovate a hotel, he is living the dream. It is a lot work but if anyone can do it, it is Amir. I give him all my respect for following his dream and having a vision.
