Spent a quiet 4 nights here in March under the attentive care of the owners Steve and Ruth and their front desk gal, Ms. Payne. They helped us secure a reputable driver and guide to take us hiking the 4 hours up to the volcano and back via the Black Hole and Mesopotamia, going and coming. The volcano is a must if you have the strength and stamina to hike 2 hours up and 2 hours down (we are good hikers so can't imagine taking much less time). Ruth applauded us taking the local van (which fit up to 23 persons at one point), music blaring, which is accessed easily from the little supermarket a short walk down the hill from the hotel. It costs just $1 US so saves while entertaining. Everyone on the bus is very nice and squeezes to fit you in. We rode all the way to Kingston where we hoped on another up the hill to visit the Botanical Gardens, churches and then later, the local markets to purchase food for the well appointed kitchen in our room. By the third day, we were ready for the pool which was clean and had no smell of chlorine. Being of fair skin, we sat in the fabulous pavilion and read much of the day. When I went to ask the Cook for some ice for our rum punch, I remarked that something smelled delicious. She smiled and offered me a bite of cod cake she was making and then made us a complimentary bowl with chili sauce which we ate by the pool. The rooms are comfortable, large and clean. Everyone that works there smiles & is there to help. A beautiful & peaceful location.
