Use caution when booking
This was a "self service" property, i didn't know there was such a thing before this trip, so now I know! You get the door code via email or text shortly before the stay. There is no one on the property for quick questions, help, etc. This motel is affiliated with another similar named property just up the road, so probably owned by them. Anyway, besides the weird atmosphere of an unattended motel, the main issues we had were... the king bed had only 3 pillows, not enough, there was no extra blanket, nothing, and there was no coffee machine, which we've come to expect with the absolutely cheapest properties, especially with one like this that was out on the highway by itself, so nothing close by. We have definitely spent much less for much more in the past, and in fact, on this latest trip through New England, we got more for less. However, I would recommend caution when you are booking... we had no indication that this property was not staffed. We stayed at one other "self service" motel also, but it was somewhat better (I still would not stay there again - paid too much for too little).

Quite honestly, I was quite disappointed with my stay. There was a fake fingernail on the bathroom floor & the shower was impossible to keep water from the surrounding bathroom floor. There were no staff anywhere on the premises but instead up the road at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge & having anyone answer the phone was sketchy. I would have appreciated a way to make coffee in the room as it was a drive into town & nothing was open. I would not stay again & am disappointed at the Red Lion Inn.

We were just a few days before we arrived that the Briarcligf hotel was just taken over by the Red Lion Inn. The lobby was shuttered with no staff on site so we had to drive to the Inn for breakfast...parking there was a challenge. Room was clean but shower had minimal glass wall enclosure so many towels were needed to mop up the floor. Return to the motel from the town is a nerve-wracking left turn...a blinking light would surely help. The Little Lion is a work in progress.

This property is no longer called the Briarcliff Motel. It is now the Little Lion and is owned by the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge. It’s a low budget property that is undergoing some improvements. I knew what to expect , so I wasn’t really surprised. I arrived about 45 minutes before check in time and there was no one at the property to check in with. The office was locked. Fortunately, I received a text that informed me of my room number and door combination, along with a phone number to call if I had a problem. I had to call the number to get my door combination to work. This was accomplished in less than 10 minutes, but after that, all went well, despite the wall air conditioner being a bit noisy !

Forget this place.
If I could give this place a zero, I would. We made the reservation months in advance and heard nothing from them to indicate they had sold the business and that conditions had changed. When we arrived for checkin the parking lot was completely empty, the building, dark, empty, and no one responded to ringing the bell or knocking on the door. We had to walk into another nearby hotel for a room. They have still not refunded our money as they charged us as if we had stayed there.

Property was very clean and bedding comfortable. It shows a considerable effort to make a very old property clean and comfortable . However, the bathroom door locked and was very hard to open. We were afraid to shut the door completely. No toiletries or shower cap-soap and shampoo in dispensers on the wall. AC was very noisy. There was no one on the property to offer assistance at any time.

I understand they are going through a transition, but there was no one on site to check us in. There was a lovely young woman that worked there, but her English was extremely limited. It was only by hit and miss that I was finally able to find a number to call. The person I talked to was extremely helpful, and I wish them great success with their endeavor.

No staff present on site
No one is present at the location; no signs, etc on how to contact anyone. As I had a record of a phone #, I was able to text them and check in. They gave me a code and told me to go into an already occupied room. After contacting them again, I was able to get in a vacant room. However, after leaving for dinner, the code for the room no longer worked ; I had to contact them again and wait for someone to come out and let me into the room. There is a notice in the room stating I can get a "voucher from the front desk" (which is not open) so I can get breakfast at another property. No ice machine. No way to run a business.

Sorta not as in the mountains as advertised. There was no staff on the property at all. They did not have breakfast and the central area was closed. I called the phone number provided and the guy said we could have breakfast at another hotel but it was too inconvenient. I just wouldn’t stay here again.
