We spent an unplanned night at the hotel, having arrived in Cusco sooner than planned. We left some money in the hotel room safe, in order not to carry around all our valuables. The money was counted beforehand. The next morning, before the check out, much to our disbelief and disappointment, we realised that some of the money was actually missing from the safe. Someone thought we wouldn't realise it, but as it was only our third night in Peru and we are very particular with our money, we knew straight away how much was taken and even in which notes. I confronted the hotel manager, who of course claimed it was impossible for anyone to use the master key, I didn't expect any other response. I was going to call the police and meet with the owners, but due to time constraints my wife convinced me to let it go and we got on with the rest of our trip without further disappointments. Just to make you all aware, do not leave any valuables in the safe. They are not safe!
