This was my very first trip to Colombia. Hotel 51 is located on 7th Carrera, which is the main street in Bogota. I would recommend requesting a room in the back to avoid the noise.
Not everything was perfect: we never could use the room safe, because the person who had the key to reset it was not there (we arrived during the last week of the Christmas holiday, which lasts a month). The room was pleasant, spacious and we have a cute enclosed and covered patio with a table and chairs. This enabled us to eat in a couple times after extremely long and fabulous days of traveling in the mountains.
Be aware that the hotel charges 5000 pesos a day per person, for insurance purposes. We were not aware of it, and questioned the charge. My friend and I speak Spanish very well, and the staff could not have been more helpful, nicer, considerate, friendly, welcoming. They made all the difference in our feeling comfortable, welcome and safe. They recommended a driver with car for us to get around. we used him every day and went all over Bogota. He told us a great deal about the country's history, took us to places we would not have considered. Overall a great experience.
