Each Thanksgiving I travel to the beach with my family and stay at a resort that meets a particular set of criteria. This year we chose North Padre Island over our usual destination. I looked for a resort to specifically meet my criteria: beach access, bar, breakfast, restaurant, and hot tub. Additionally, this year I was hoping to find one with a gym as well. When we booked this trip six months ago, it appeared to meet those criteria. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, it fell far short. The beach access is fabulous and the outdoor bar is pricey but offers great views and seating. The first morning, breakfast was never put out and the coffee was from the previous day. A TAD more was offered for breakfast the following mornings. It was scant and they put it out late and put it away early. The restaurant/grill was closed for remodeling and from what I could gather, the hot tub hadn’t worked in months. The hotel is beautiful and has potential, but it’s rundown - carpet stains and tape in the elevator holding the panels on. The staff was friendly. I don’t think it’s laziness on their part, but rather lack of resources. I shouldn’t be charged a “resort fee” of $35 a night per room when I’m not getting the benefits of staying at a resort. We booked three rooms. We won’t be back.
