This was a really cool place to stay! So much history in one place, and the hiking trails out back are amazing too. The building itself is an awesome setup and the bed was comfortable to sleep in. We arrived earlier in the day prior to check-in time, understanding that we might not be able to check-in early but we wanted to see if by chance our room was available due to our drive and itinerary. We were only in town staying one evening and planned to go to the Virginia Safari Zoo (which I also recommend it’s amazing!). So I arrive to the front desk, and I’m not sure if the older lady was just having a bad day or what, but her service was not very welcoming and felt quite rude. She interrupted me and basically cut me off before I could finish talking and told me no. I then proceeded with kindness to tell her I called the night before and was told there wasn’t a guarantee, but a possibility we could check-in early if our room was ready once we arrived. She then says well yeah if your room is ready, but we’re not going to have housekeeping clean a room for you just because you’re here early. Now I didn’t expect that nor did I feel entitled to that, just wanted to see. I said ma’am I understand that…she then interrupts again and calls to see if our room is ready and sure enough it was. We were very grateful to get to check-in early, however I did not feel very welcomed and was put off by her tone and demeanor towards me. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay!
