Lack of communication
Timing for my trip was unfortunate due to the Christmas fair that was taking place immediately beside the hotel. Parking was impossible; the hotel had not contacted me with instructions on where to park & how to contact them when I arrived. The hotel is very hard to find, but fortunately, I asked a kind shopkeeper to assist me. The trek up to the hotel is long, steep, and over cobblestones.

This is a legit castle that you can walk around and explore. The medieval city within the walls was amazing to see and explore. The food options, drinks, wines and shops were plentiful and all perfect. The people were so friendly and helpful. The city locals and tourists all combine in this area to chat over a glass of wine. The views of the city are breathtaking. I would highly highly recommend this property for a one of a kind stay in a real castle. Being a real castle, the rooms are not the most soundproof, but quiet enough. It’s your room neighbors that could keep you up. Parking is not the easiest as the streets are tight and crowded during peak times. Otherwise, this is a great place.

Location within the castle is quite unique, and very accessible to the main street of town. Employees were very friendly. Garden room was very nice. Two areas requiring improvement: The tower room was unlivable due to the terrible mustiness and lack of windows in order to air out the room. We had to move to a garden room. The tower room should not be considered 4-star accommodation. Second: The climb up from the recommended parking area is too steep for middle age to older guests, even using the hotel's suggestion of having small luggage. The hotel should offer transportation. We did get a van lift down to the parking area at the end of our stay but it was done using a delivery van and we were told this service is not normally offered to guests.

Overnight stay in a castle!
How often can you say you stayed in a castle? As mentioned before, there are a lot of stairs, but it’s worth it to have the experience! Our room was across the hall from an outdoor balcony, which overlooked the area. My husband took a walk around the castle wall in the morning, which he enjoyed. Breakfast was lovely. Overall a nice stay in a beautiful town.
