If I had to sum it up in one word, I would call it grim. This is a hostel, not a hotel. And not the most community friendly or picturesque hostel I've stayed at. I honestly have to question if the other reviews aren't shill reviews or fakes.
We had some last minute travel changes and booked online with little info and little knowledge of the city. Our family of four was not presented with a lot of options, but I believe that to be my poor patience and limited listings on the site we used rather than an actual lack of rooms in the area. The location is OK, but not great as you have to haul your luggage about one km up the hill from the subway station. There are many other guest houses that are more central to the Meyong Dong shopping and restaurants.
No one was at the desk upon our arrival. We called and the host showed up to give us our key and show the room. Contrary to the other reviews, we never saw the owners. We also never saw the staff again. Our room had the remnants of a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom and only two towels for our four. On the second day we discovered it was "stock your own" by searching the cabinets in the common area. The community room is tiny and in the windowless basement. Clever use of mirrors make it seem larger, but there are only two tables. The mattresses stick springs in your back.
We pre-paid for four nights. It was bad enough that we left and rented a new hotel room for the remainder of our trip, eating the cost.
