Hotel.com has inaccurate info. In-person check in is only offered 4-5 pm. We only learned by text less than 2 hours before when we were still a 3 hour plus drive away. We stayed in the "Library" -- beautiful, but they didn't leave the "secret pasage" to the toilet and sink open for us; as a result, we thought we had to use a bathroom downstairs. With no person on site, this confusion was not easily resolved. Similarly, I had to go hunting for towels to use the tub (which was not through a secret passage). The staff helpfully informed us that the boiler needed repair and there was no hot water. We accepted a 50% refund as a result. However, the mansion's HVAC blasted us with cold air every hour or so throughout the night. It blew directly to our bed creating drafts of cold air under the covers and it rattled the blinds against the window. Not a very restful night before catching a plane home in the morning. With no person on site, many problems were harder to resolve. They offer answers by text, but that's not so helpful when you need some kind of orientation to the room, like you need someone to tell you about a "secret passage" to your en suite toilet. Seems like they are cutting costs and minimizing any human element to staying here. Also only offer some "continental" breakfast like you'd find at a Econolodge. In other words, they're cutting the exact reasons why people choose to stay in a B&B. Not sure I'd stay here again.
