We stayed at the Aktaion for two weeks in mid-September. We couldn't have wished for a more ideal location for a really relaxing holiday.
The hotel is old fashioned in the best possible way. The elegant building was renovated a few years ago and has been well maintained since then. Accommodation is simple, but very clean and comfortable. All rooms have sea-facing balconies and sitting out in the evenings with a cold beer (rooms have a fridge), watching the world go by was a delight.
Although located in the town centre, we didn't find that noise was any problem.
The Hotel no longer has a bar or restaurant of its own, but there are plenty of places to eat and drink in the immediate area.
It does, however, offer an outstanding buffet breakfast, which set us up until the evening on most days. Much of the food on offer is home-made and of excellent quality. Our only small criticism of the Hotel is that the breakfast room is a little small for the number of rooms and on some mornings there was a short wait for a table to become available.
The small staff were all charming and helpful and spoke good English. Particular mention must go to Katerina and Natassa, who come in ridiculously early to set up and serve breakfast and then go on to clean all of the rooms. They were always efficient, cheerful, polite and absolutely delightful, making a big contribution to a perfect holiday.
We shall be back next year!
