My sister and I traveled from California to the Galapagos to celebrate my 40th birthday. As a biologist/ecologist, and an avid animal lover, the Galapagos seemed to be perfect for celebrating this milestone birthday. We decided to stay on three islands during our vacation; our second island was Isabella and as soon as I saw Chez Manany Ecolodge while looking online for accommodations on Isabella, I wanted to stay there. I love the idea of supporting owners of an ecolodge during an eco-tourism vacation. Plus, the price for the two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite with a kitchen, dining area, and living room, plus all the balcony space, was unbeatable.
Upon arrival to the ecolodge, we were greeted by Manany herself (her English is very good), who gave us a "tour" of the features of the ecolodge (such as reuse of graywater [from the shower and kitchen sink] for irrigation, placement of windows and roof eaves to reduce the direct sunlight into the house to lower power usage to cool the place, etc.) and a summary of things to do on the island. Manany's husband was the architect for the ecolodge.
During our stay, we told Manany what we wanted from a tour and she made a suggestion that sounded great, so she jumped on the phone with a tour group and made us reservations, and it was the best tour of our vacation. Manany also made us reservations for my birthday dinner and the restaurant provided me a free dessert. Manany is wonderful, caring, and amazing hostess! We LOVED her!
