Lanikai Beach means “heavenly ocean” in the native language. The beach is not only popular for beach activities and sunbathing by day, but attracts people in the early morning and late evening to see the sunrise and sunset over the sparkling ocean.

If you want adventure, Lanikai Beach offers near-perfect wind and wave conditions for watersports. Kayaking is popular for exploring the waters offshore, but you can try sailing and windsurfing when the wind is powerful. The beach is also a good snorkelling spot and you’ll find some colourful reef areas nearby.

Good to know when visiting Lanikai Beach

You can reach Lanikai Beach via public access walkways. The beach doesn’t have nearby public car parks or amenities like a lifeguard or shower facilities, but the nearby Kailua Beach Park offers bathrooms, picnic areas, and outdoor showers.

Plenty of beaches are nearby if you want to spend more time in the sun. You’ll also find hiking areas, such as the Pillbox Hike. Several islands are near the beach, known as the Mokes, one of which is a bird sanctuary. After spending time outdoors, you can head into the area of Lanikai for dining, attractions, and nightlife.
