Luna Fete is an annual festival celebrating technology, art, and light, attracting over 50,000 people with spectacular displays of projection mapping and light-based art. It was originally intended as a five-year initiative that would celebrate the tricentennial of the city but kept on going as a regular festival.

It takes place in Lafayette Square every year, and is unique in its combination of projected light art, interactive installations, and digital sculptures, all during the heights of the holiday season. Of course, since this is NOLA, you can count on improvisational jazz music accompanying the displays.

Highlights and History of Luna Fete

Luna Fete was originally conceived in 2013 as a five-year festival that would culminate in a big celebration of the city's tricentennial in 2018. The festival grew year by year, and after 2018, the city decided to continue it as an annual celebration. Today tens of thousands of people descend upon Lafayette Square every year to celebrate the holidays with art and style.

The highlight of the festival is without a doubt the projected light art displays that turn just about every building and surface in and around the square to a canvas. Music and sounds both recorded and live are added to heighten the experience.

What to Know About Luna Fete

Luna Fete is a free event that's open to the public every year. You can, however, enjoy a VIP Luna Lounge experience with tickets available at a very affordable cost. This lets you sit under a heated tent with private bathrooms to see the show. In addition, you'll enjoy complimentary food from some of the best-reviewed restaurants in the city.

In a city that's known for its rowdy nightlife, this is certainly a family-friendly event that even the kids can enjoy. Since it's all digitally projected art onto buildings, Luna Fete also friendly to people with disabilities, and usually, pets on leashes are fine since it's an outdoor public space.
